Why conversations slip away
Most of what we need from a conversation is small and precise: the figure someone agreed to, the date a colleague promised, the name of the person to call back. Those details fade first. Notes taken during the conversation miss them because you were listening, and a summary written afterwards smooths them into something vaguer than what was said.
A plain audio recording keeps everything, but it is hard to use. Finding one sentence in a 50-minute file means scrubbing back and forth, and after a few weeks you no longer know which file holds it. The useful combination is a transcript you can search, a list of conversations you can scan by day, and a direct path from the words back to the audio.
A method that works with or without an app
- Say the decision out loud before the conversation ends: “So we agree on Thursday and a cap of twelve million.” It gives everyone, and any recording, one clear sentence to return to.
- Write the one-line outcome within the hour: who, what, by when.
- Confirm anything important in writing, by email or message, so the other person can correct it.
- Record only with the consent the situation requires, and keep the recording long enough to check a quote.
An app does not replace this habit. It makes the last step, going back to the source, fast enough that you actually do it.
How Mnemo keeps a conversation findable
In Mnemo you start a Session for a Meeting, an Interview, a Quick note or a Dictation. Transcription runs on your iPhone; recordings are never sent to a speech service. The raw transcript is kept exactly as it was produced, and any corrections you make sit beside it, reversible and searchable.
Later you can search every conversation at once, including the words you corrected, or type a question in Ask. Ask retrieves the moments that match and shows them. Two ways to capture: Session and Notebook
A Session is deliberate: you press record, you press stop, and its audio is kept for 7, 30 or 90 days, or until you delete it, depending on your setting.
Notebook is optional and off by default. When you turn it on, it follows the day and turns what it hears into searchable moments. The text stays; the audio of a moment is deleted 24 hours after the moment ends. If you realise within that window that a conversation mattered, you can keep it as a Session without recording it a second time. You can pause Notebook for 15 minutes, an hour or until tomorrow, and forget the last 5 or 15 minutes in one gesture.
Recording other people
Whether you may record a conversation depends on the country and the situation; in some places everyone present has to agree. Mnemo says so when you set it up and does not hide that it is recording. Telling people is also practical: they speak more clearly towards a phone they know is there.
Limits worth knowing
- Mnemo records what your iPhone’s microphone hears. It does not join Zoom, Teams or Meet calls and has no integration with them; see recording a meeting without a bot.
- It runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18 or later. There is no Android or web version.
- Speaker names are a review step: you name, merge or unlink speakers yourself.
- Mnemo publishes no accuracy figures. Try a short recording in your language before relying on it.
- The app is not yet on the App Store; the launch is in final qualification.

Is there an app that remembers conversations for you?

Does Mnemo record all day?
Only if you turn on Notebook, which is off by default. Notebook keeps the text and deletes the audio of each moment 24 hours after it ends, unless you keep that conversation as a Session.
Can I ask what was decided in a meeting?

Do I need an account?
