Notebook
When enabled, the Notebook follows the day and creates searchable moments. It is visible in Today and never pretends to be active when the audio session is interrupted.
Mechanism, not magic
Mnemo separates the posture of listening from the act of keeping a conversation. That distinction is what makes Notebook useful without making Session confusing.
The short answer
Notebook is a state. Session is an act. They can share one capture stream.
01 / The two postures
Ambient listening is not another item in a picker. It is the Notebook state that can be on or off. Sessions stay deliberate: Meeting, Interview, Quick note or Dictation.
When enabled, the Notebook follows the day and creates searchable moments. It is visible in Today and never pretends to be active when the audio session is interrupted.
A Session has a deliberate start and finish. It gives a moment explicit boundaries and applies the treatment appropriate to a meeting, interview, quick note or dictation.
If Notebook is already listening, starting a Session promotes the relevant span. It does not start a second recording and duplicate the words.

03 / Source as interface
The source reference carries the date, time and transcript position. When the audio has been retained, it can open playback at the cited moment. When it has expired, Mnemo says so.
Answer
Source
“I’ll send the revised flow before lunch. Then we can review it Thursday.”

04 / A direct answer
How does Mnemo remember? It keeps a searchable transcript and derived memory objects tied to source references. Ask retrieves from that library. A citation returns you to the transcript segment and, when the audio is still retained, the corresponding playback position.
