Local transcription on Mac: workflow and limits
VoxForge is built for a simple local transcription job: bring a rights-cleared recording into a Mac project, create text with a supported local model, correct it against the audio, then export the result.
Updated 22 September 2026. The product targets macOS 14+ on Apple silicon. Candidate build 9 is not distributed yet.
How it works
- Import a local audio or video file, or use a supported live workflow.
- Choose a compatible local model and language.
- Review timestamps and speaker labels where the backend supports them.
- Correct the transcript, save the project and export TXT or subtitle output.
Privacy boundary
User-media processing is local in the documented workflow. Models may need to be downloaded, and standard network metadata can exist. Check the privacy policy for the precise boundary.
Accuracy and languages
Accuracy depends on model, language, recording quality, background noise, speakers, hardware and domain. The page makes no universal word-error or “every language” promise. Verify the selected model's language support before starting a long job.
When to choose another tool
Choose a cloud transcription service when you need hosted processing, browser collaboration or API scale. Choose a lightweight transcription utility when you only need a quick transcript and do not need an editable production project.
